Why the "Fleur de Lis" was chosen as a symbol of "The Comfort Campaign"
No other symbol quite represents New Orleans as well as our cherished Fleur de Lis.  As you stroll the city, the delicate Fleur de Lis adorns signposts, walls, and street furniture.  The design is much like a flower bud in the process of being reborn -- gently reminding you that you indeed, are in New Orleans.

The Fleur de Lis' origins date back to the twelfth century (under King Louis VI in France).  Throughout the centuries, it has become a symbol of:
  • Faith
  • Chivalry
  • Wisdom
culminating into a Resurrection filled with Light and Life

The events of Hurricane Katrina have caused the popularity of  the Fleur de Lis to soar.  Locals and visitors alike can't get enough of this beautiful symbol.  Perhaps because wearing it offers a subtle message...a quiet expression of compassion and support for a city that found itself under siege on the morning of August 29th, 2005.

Like the Fleur de Lis, New Orleans will be filled with light and life again!  As people come together to offer love and compassion...all things are possible.

Symbollic of
Faith
Chivalry
Wisdom
and Resurrection
